Create contour lines from Google Earth on AutoCAD

To create contour lines from Google Earth on AutoCAD, first you have to download these software:

TCX CONVERTER: is the critical piece of software you’ve been missing.
With TCX Converter you don’t have any more worries about incompatibilities between files for different outdoor GPS devices and mapping software.
With TCX Converter you can:
-Import TCX, GPX, FITLOG, KML, TRK (and more to come...) files
-Join multiple GPX files into one big course
-Import directly from Garmin GPS via Garmin Communicator Plugin or GPSBabel plugin
-Add or remove Waypoints with a simple mouse click
-Truncate the track at any point you like
-Update altitude data (internet connection needed)
-Change average speed of the course
-Import/Export Waypoints with smart repositioning function

QUIKGRID: is a program which will read in a set of scattered data points (x, y, z) which represents a surface. The program will generate a grid from this data and then display the surface as a contour map, or as a 3d representation. The left mouse button may be used to zoom in and pan about the display. The right mouse button may be used to display information about the generated grid coordinates and data points.

    Hi, I was trying this tutorial earlier. Unfortunately it didn't work out...
    Excel wouldn't separate the columns when saving with "no", but everything would work out when saving with separation of ;. So opening the csv file which was separated by ; I will get the columns like in your video, delete the ones i don't need, switch the first two and then save. Excel then asks me if I want to save as an Excel working map or csv file while that would mean that some data get lost.
    I tried both versions to open and import in QuickGrid, but I'll get this message:
    "Error interpreting number .... at approximately line number 1 in file .....csv"
    with following:
    "The input data had less than 3 data points and was ignored"

    What to do? Please help! Thx

      i've the same problem (with microsoft excel 2007)!! i've also tried to open the csv file with openoffice, in that case the program let you choose how to separate cells, but when i import on quickgrid there was the same message... please help! thx

      open the file with word replace the ";" with "," and save. close the text and it should work

    I have reinstalled TCX Converter numerous times and still get the same "OCTYPE HTML PUBLIC" error that everyone else is getting. I have found a work around for it but the elevation given will only be relative to the lowest point in your .kml file, not relative to sea level. (i.e. the lowest point will be 0, the highest point will be XX,XXX). This should work if you're only after getting contour lines, if you need specific elevation I guess you could to the math, taking into account the contour intervals in quikgrid and manually put in the elevation of each contour when editing in Autocad.

    After saving your .kml file from google earth, go to http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/elevation and load the file there. Click "Convert and Add Elevation," and output as a .gpx file. Download the link that it gives you and import that into TCX Converter. Do not update elevation, only export as a .csv file and continue from there, opening in excel, then to Quikgrid, etc.

      Take care. There is a great difference between elevation with GPX (SRTM3) and the elevation by Google Earth (about 3.5 m).

      IF YOU SAVE THAT FILE AGAIN AS A .KML AND OPEN IT IN THE CONVERTOR AND THEN SAVE IT AS A .CVS , IT WILL SHOW THW RIGHT ELEVATION

    I am trying to take the DXF file produced by this process and overlaying it with GPS files I mapped using a trimble device and the scale factors are really off and the coordinates are not matching up. Any Advice or help on solving this would be helpful. I use Autocad map 3D 2015

    Hello, I've tried everything to make it work but it wont. I have the same problem as everyone else. When it's finished in excel, what should you save it as? There are more CSV files.

    And once i save it in excel it says some parts may become incompatible. Might this be the problem?

    Hope someone will help me out.

    Thanks very much for the tutorial. Works wonderfully. At first I received same error messages everyone seem to be having issue with. The Key is to follow the tutorial's steps. I think he did a fantastic job sharing, everyone need to go back and check the steps used to get those errors. That's what I did and eventually works fine. "LAT & LOG rows" after deleting stuff you don't need, are the the key how. I mean how you swap them is important. I hope that helps others.

    I followed those step and they are fine until I Update Attitude. The ALT numbers change from 0 to " ml> ", all of them. I keeps follow the step from video. The Quickgrid program wont allow me to import the data since it doesn't have the number in the last row! What should I do?
